LCIA characterisation model description and included sub-models The fate and exposure model is based on the ExternE work (Dreicer et al. (1995)), describing the routine 14 atmospheric and liquid discharges in the French nuclear fuel cycle. Three additional radionucleides are modeled (data: UNSCEAR, 1993).

Model, documentation, and results very well documented with detailed data and sources used for each radionucleide and model part. All vital elements are included in a scientific sound way. Widely used but not endorsed by an authorative body. Need for updates (fate model).

Project LCIA method original development by ESU-services Ltd in order to contribute to Eco-indicator 99. Documentation as ILCD formatted data set, mapping to the ILCD elementary flows, and additional quality checks by the EC’s JRC-IES and with contractual support projects, partly financed under several Administrative Arrangements on the European Platform on LCA - EPLCA' between JRC and DG ENV, (070402/2006/443456/G4, 070307/2007/474521/G4, 070307/2008/513489/G4).
Intended applications Provide applicable midpoint characterization factors for ionizing radiation (human health).
